Welcoming Spring

I had planned to write this on the Spring Equinox but it has taken me a while to really feel into Spring this year. I think it’s to do with a few things including the weather (it’s been so cold, grey, wet and not very Spring like!) and being a bit overwhelmed with many things going on in my life but this morning I was out walking the dogs and it totally, totally felt like Spring. So, finally here I am with some thoughts, photos, goals for this season and a little garden update. I hope it leaves feeling the joys of this beautiful season and ready to embrace it all!

The more seasons I get to experience, the more I want to fully live in the season we are in. To learn more about all that happens in the beautiful nature around me, to take part in rituals and celebrations, to create my own seasonal traditions, to make plans and goals for the season that reflect the season we are in and of course to take photographs and journal to capture all the magic, joy and wonder of it all. Last Summer I started a One Line A Day 5 year diary for my garden thanks to a sharing from Elise Blaha Cripe (if you don’t follow Elise, you really should!) and I am started to get really excited about coming round to last year’s entries and comparing what is happening in the garden with what was going on last Summer.

But let’s stay in the Spring! Here is a collection of images I’ve taken over the last couple of weeks. Some from my gardens (front and back) and some from dog walks in Frome, Somerset where I live.

Just over 40 days ago I started my first 100 day goal journal. Wow! It’s been a real game changer for understanding where my time is going and keeping me as focused as possible on my goals. I will share more about it when I reach the end of this one and start my next one. I started this one just before the start of Spring, so it’s not strictly just for Spring and 100 days takes you through more than one season but I still love the structure and focus of it. I’m definitely thinking of it as my Spring goals.

My main goal this season is to complete Year 3 of my Psychology degree. It’s part time, to this will make the half way point! I then have a decluttering goal of clearing out 100 bags during these 100 days. I may have overestimated how much I can clear during this time but I’m down to 81 bags to go, so I am at least making progress! I then have two other Spring goals, which I will be sharing with you soon. I’m equally excited about both of them and they are beautiful projects/adventures that will take me into Summer and beyond.

Finally, it couldn’t be a Spring blog post without mentioning my garden plans for this season! I’m still grateful every single day that I have my own garden. This is my second Spring here and this Summer will be my third Summer (we moved to Somerset in June 2021), so I am still discovering things about our garden but am also getting to know what works where.

This Spring/Summer I will installing some more raised beds for cut flowers and vegetables, planting some wild flower areas and hopefully be enjoying Dahlias, Cosmos, Roses and more. I have planted some new roses both climbers and shrubs, so I’m looking forward to seeing how they do. I will be sharing plenty of images from my garden over on my Instagram and here too over the next few months.
