What I’ve Learnt From My First 100 Day Journal

I have really loved my first 100-Day Goal Journal and it’s helped me achieve lots in 2023 already. I am about to begin my second one but before I do, I wanted to take some time to reflect on what Journal One taught me and I thought it would be useful to share with you, especially if you are thinking of starting one or even if you are just thinking about your goals and how to get stuff done.

Remember to take days off! I can laugh about this now but I got into a real muddle because I saw my 100 days as 100 days all in a row…with no days off. Some weekends I did plan to work (motherhood/work/study balance!) but on some weekends or indeed week days I wasn’t working or working on my home and personal goals and I felt I had failed by not making any progress on these days. I also had some sick days and again, I just wrote these off as fail days, rather than continuing my 100 days from my first well day.

This time I’m intentionally thinking of this as 100 days spread over 24 weeks. This is 20 weeks of 5 days a week plus 2 weeks off and 2 weeks slack for illness or other unexpected life stuff. I am beginning this Journal on Monday 17th July and it will take me through to the end of 2023.

Adapt your goals as you go You might start your journal with a really clear 100 day goal in mind and use the journal to achieve that. However, if you are like me you will have a few goals that you are working on. I am definitely going to try this with one clear goal one day. Maybe in 2024! But for now, I’m definitely in the several goal camp. These goals are clear, exciting and achievable (with some hard work!) but I’m also open to adding another 1 or 2 if opportunities or ideas come along. I’m pretty sure they will!

Think about how to spread your goals If you are like me and a multi-passionate goal setter (!!) then you will want to think about how you spread your goals. There might be one that goes across the whole 100 days but others that you are going to achieve in the first few weeks and then others that are important to focus on a little later in your 100 day period. Don’t feel overwhelmed by writing down all your goals each day and then feeling like you’re spreading yourself too thin or failing to do all that you hope to do. You have got this and you’re amazing, so don’t make yourself feel bad. Keep a note of the goals you have set yourself and then work out the order of priority.
